Delta flight from Minneapolis interrupted by stowaway pigeons

Two recalcitrant pigeons caused pandemonium after they fluttered about the main cabin of a Delta flight from Minneapolis-St. Paul to Madison, NBC News reports. It started when a passenger, aptly named Tom Caw, spotted the first pigeon, which was then promptly removed. But “[a]s the flight taxied out to take off, a second pigeon emerged and flew down the main aisle of the cabin. … The bird prompted several passengers to scream.” Delta has apologized for the disruption. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an air quality alert for northeastern Minnesota, MPR News reports. The alert, which is “due to fine particles pollution with the Air Quality Index expected to reach the red or unhealthy category.” Blame Canadian wildfire smoke blowing in from Saskatchewan. After a rousing defeat at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Minnesota Timberwolves’ season has drawn to a close. But that hasn’t kept pundits like Sports Illustrated from proposing trades that could transform the hometown squad into a juggernaut.   Anoka County will offer free training programs for professionals that assist immigrants, according to Hoodline. The session, titled “Immigration: Trending Topics for Helping Professions,” aims to “better equip those who engage with the complex landscape of immigration. The session promises to cover vital issues like refugee resettlement and legal aid.” Four small-town newspapers in northwest Minnesota have shut down, the Minnesota Star Tribune reports. The towns of Gonvick, McIntosh, Grygla and Oklee “all closed this past week. Each location had one employee.” Minnesota has lost 34% of its newspapers in the past 20 years, mostly in rural areas.
