Grand jury returns six-count indictment charging Vance Boelter

KARE 11 reports: A federal grand jury returned a six-count indictment, charging the man accused of shooting and killing Rep. Melissa Hortman, her husband, Mark, their dog, Gilbert, and wounding Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette. Vance Boelter, 57, is charged with one count of stalking Rep. Hortman; one count of stalking Sen. Hoffman; two counts of murder through use of a firearm — punishable up to death — and two counts of firearm offenses for the shootings of the Hoffmans.  Twin Cities and Duluth-area nurses can expect pay increases over the coming years. WCCO TV writes that thousands of nurses voted to ratify a new contract after months of bargaining. The new contract addresses staffing, workplace safety and fair wages. Twin Cities nurses will see a 10% raise over three years and Duluth-area nurses will see a 9.75% raise over three years. The Sahan Journal explains: A wave of federal funding cuts to food assistance programs across the country has strained food shelves nationwide, pushing many to rethink how they operate in order to meet rising demand with fewer resources. In March, the U.S. Department of Agriculture cancelled $1 billion in funding for schools and food banks to buy food from local suppliers. KTTC reports that special youth deer hunt permits are now available through Aug. 15. Youth ages 12-15 at the time of the hunt are eligible and must be accompanied by an adult.
