Flash Flood Warning issued for parts of DC area

Once again, pouring rain and storms has hit the D.C. region on Saturday, which is leading to some flooding. The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for the following counties until these specific times: A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for Central Montgomery County in Maryland and Fairfax County in Virginia until 9:30 p.m. A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for West Central Anne Arundel County, East Central Montgomery County and Prince George’s County in Maryland until 9:15 p.m. Flash Flood Warning for Southeastern Montgomery County in Maryland until 9 p.m. Flash Flood Warning for East Central D.C., Prince George’s County in central Maryland until 9 p.m. Flash Flood Warning for East Central District of Columbia, Prince George’s County in central Maryland until 9 p.m. Flash Flood Warning for Central D.C. until 8:45 p.m. Flash Flood Warning for Southeastern Montgomery County and Prince George’s counties until 8:30 p.m. Flash Flood Warning for Northwest D.C. and Southeastern Montgomery, Prince George’s and Fairfax counties until 8:15 p.m. for Northwest D.C. and parts of Montgomery, Prince George’s counties in Maryland and Fairfax County, Virginia, until 8:15 p.m. Also, most of the region will be under a Flood Watch until 10 p.m. Rainfall rates of 2 to 4 inches per hour are causing flash flooding across the region. Heavy thunderstorms could produce damaging winds and downed trees. WTOP Meteorologist Mike Stinneford reports that there are already water rescues in Silver Spring and Takoma Park. Montgomery County fire crews have already reported a water rescue conducted in Takoma Park at Cedar Ave and Philadelphia Ave Officials say that’s where they found a vehicle stuck in floodwaters with the driver on top of the vehicle. The driver was safely brought to higher ground. Officials say sewers in the area are backed up and not allowing water to drain…so you’re advised to avoid the area. Those showers are expected to wrap up by midnight as temperatures fall to the 70s for a cooler night. Sunday will be another hot day with temperatures climbing back into the 90s. The heat index will make it feel like it’s in the upper 90s. But Evans has good news: Tomorrow is the final day of the extreme mugginess that’s had a grip on the region. “Lower humidity is finally on the way by Monday of next week,” he said. Expect to see excellent weather on Monday and Tuesday with temperatures in the mid-80s — perfect beach days. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain fell within the 9 p.m. hour Friday in northeastern Orange County, Virginia. 7News First Alert Meteorologist Veronica Johnson reported that Old Office Road in Orange County is closed near Black Walnut Run, where the creek is reportedly flowing across the road by at least two feet of water.
